Let's see how fast I can catch everyone up more or less. So here goes my quick attempt at 2010 so far:
I had good intentions in January to do a follow-up blog post on my sticker chart of 2009. Does anyone remember that? Things went well. I still have lots to work on. If you want details, let me know. A new sticker chart was created for 2010 and so far, so good.
February
I turned the big 30! No major crisis happened. I wasn't really planning on having one,. To be honest, I was actually looking forward to my birthday. I went home to Kansas the weekend before for BBQ with family & friends, as usual.
My Mom made an awesome cake, we played games and the homefront was pretty much as fun as always!
Oh! Have I mentioned my nephew is adorable?
My celebration here in Utah was almost a copy-cat celebration of last year. Although this time, exactly 30 people came to dinner. That was a fun coincidence. These are just a handful of some of my favorite people who joined the festivities.
March
I started my goal of no sugar. (Which I accomplished successfully for 41 days--until April 11) and signed up for myfooddiary.com. I tracked my food intake every meal, every day for the entire month. It was amazing to know the exact nutritional value of everything my body was consuming. I lost 6 lbs, with little physical effort, just by eliminating sugar, drinking more water and being aware of what I was eating all month. It was an awesome experience. I plan to do it again in May.
For a little spring break excursion at the end of March, I flew to southern California and met up with my brother and his family who had driven down from Sacramento. He was competing in the Oceanside half Ironman and decided to make a family vacation out of it. We spent time at Disneyland, the Wild Animal Park and had pizza by the hotel pool during the days before the big race.
On race day, we left the hotel at 530am to get to the harbor before the swim event started. Not a one of us had a functioning brain at that time of the morning, so our little band of spectators was completely unprepared for the day. My brother spent the morning working hard...swimming 1.2 miles, biking 56 miles and running 13.1 miles, while the rest of us enjoyed a beautiful day at the beach (sadly unprepared..no swimsuits, no towels and no sunscreen!)--Ouch!
James accomplished a personal best for the half Ironman of 4 hrs 56 mins. Good job, big brother! I'm glad it was you and not me.
April
I had been looking forward to April for months! It was way back in late October that 2 of my current co-workers (Kelly and Amy), as well as one of my favorite people on the planet and former co-worker, Laura and I decided to book a 5 night cruise to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico....and cruise we did! It deserves its own post, so stay tuned......
